Woods Creek (Alpine County, CA)

Fall 2004, bank stabilization project. Woods Creek is a tributary to Caples Lake below Carson Pass in Alpine County, California. This beautiful mountain stream is an excellent seasonal trout stream for small rainbow, brook and brown trout. The project site is nearly 8000 feet in elevation with a strong riparian component of willow and aspen. Beaver activity is common and may have played a role in the formation of some of the small meadow areas along the channel.

The private landowner is working with StreamWise to reduce the accelerated lateral erosion rates and monitor the project performance with periodic survey of five channel transects and 20 photo points. The restoration work is reported by the landowner to have held up very well after the intense 2005 spring runoff. Inspection by StreamWise is scheduled for later in the season.
